Abode of Grace
Brooklyn Chapels Fundraising Initiative
Join us in celebrating the Sisters of St. Joseph who teach and have taught at the College. In their honor, we will renovate the chapels on the SJC Brooklyn campus located in Burns Hall and McEntegart. The items listed on this page will transform the chapels to be more welcoming, inclusive and adaptable spaces. And every donated item may be engraved or embroidered to remember or honor a loved one or favorite St. Joseph’s professor. Your donation (of any amount) will make you a “Friend of the Chapels.”
Chapel Updates
Kennedy Chapel in Burns Hall
Seating
To accommodate people who use wheelchairs or have difficulty standing without chair arms and to allow for various configurations—circles for retreat groups, as well as rows for Masses—chairs will replace the current pews. Donate a chair or chairs in memory or in honor of someone special in your life. All prices include engraving with a plate affixed to the chair’s back.
Items for the Celebration of Mass
Our chapels need some of the sacred items used in the Celebration of Mass. Item prices include an inscription.
Sister Marie Mackey, a Sister of St. Joseph and SJC Brooklyn’s director of campus ministries, compiled a list of items, many of which can be personalized to honor or remember someone special.
Cash Donations and “Cornerstone Gifts.”
Cash donations in any amount are greatly appreciated and will assist with overall renovations, such as replacing the curtain behind the altar, a new area rug in the Kennedy Chapel and other updates to refresh the spaces. Subtly, and in keeping with the character of the existing chapels, the curtain, rug and carpeting will introduce St. Joseph’s college colors to our sacred spaces.
Exceptional Contributions
Sister Marie would like to replace the existing sculptures with figures that better represent the diversity of our SJC community and charism of the College and its founding Sisters. Her selections are almost-life-size figures, including St. Joseph, Mary, mother of Jesus, St. Teresa of Avila, and St. Ignatius of Loyola. Prices include an engraved plate at the base of the sculpture.
The “Lady Chapel” in the McEntegart Library
Donors are invited to purchase a chair or chairs to help SJC update the seating in this small library chapel. Donors are invited to purchase a chair or set of stacking chairs to help SJC update the seating in this small library chapel. As with the Kennedy Chapel, chairs will make the space more adaptable. Chair prices include an engraved plate on the back of the chair.
