Goal: $5M to Create New Academic and Research Opportunities
Our faculty are the core of our University experience. They fuel the inspiration that ignites curiosity, finds passion and launches lives of purpose among our more than 45,000 alumni. We will prioritize high-impact practices throughout the curriculum, so that all students and professors will benefit from targeted initiatives like undergraduate research, service learning, internships and mentoring, and many more.

To do this, we focus on what St. Joe’s does best – creating a place for academic success for each student and bringing educational opportunities where they are needed most. This begins with a conviction to answer the call of the times, demonstrated by the vision to look to new academic programs, degrees and certificates, building on our deep traditions in education and healthcare. In 2023, 81% of SJNY first-year students said that “enhanced academic programs” were a primary reason why they chose St. Joe’s.
We have seen the benefit to students when their classroom experiences are augmented by travel, hands-on practice, research, and connections to industry and employers. From STEM fields to education, the humanities to social welfare, our courses are designed to nurture students’ dreams and build the skills necessary in tomorrow’s world.
“The 2024 SURF fellowship has helped me to conduct my research by providing me with transportation from Brooklyn to the Marine Biology lab, as well as a place to dorm and the necessary materials I need to carry out my research. The financial assistance has allowed me to focus on the research project and conduct close rigorous research in the summer months.”
