University Impact Piece

A Message from the President

Dear friends,

Through the charism of the Sisters of St. Joseph, the ideal of educating the whole person was established early on in St. Joseph’s history.

That commitment endures, and guides our present and our future. I am proud to present to you our inaugural Impact Report, a review of the inspiring generosity and the significant outcomes made possible for SJNY. As we celebrate these accomplishments, we also reaffirm our commitment to the core values established by the Sisters of St. Joseph upon our founding: spiritual depth, integrity, intellectual rigor, service and social responsibility.

This Impact Report showcases the dedication and hard work of our faculty, staff, students, alumni and friends. I invite you to meet these exceptional people: scholarship recipients, Shoshana Providence ’24 and Amanda Segovia ’25, and our talented faculty members, Drs. Anna Egbert and Konstantine Rountos. From innovative research to transformative educational experiences, each narrative highlights the deep influence we continue to have on individuals and the community at large.

It has been my great honor to lead this extraordinary institution since July 2017. During that time, your inspiring philanthropy — donations totaling more than $20 million — have led the way. Because of you, our University has been able to continue to offer generous scholarships to students, beautify the campuses, open a state-of-the art student center, offer faculty research grants, create a summer undergraduate research fellows program and much more.

I am grateful to be a steward of your philanthropic intentions and your belief in St. Joe’s. I extend my deepest gratitude to everyone who has contributed to the success of our University, and helped shape the collective achievements shared in this report.

Throughout our history, it has been you — our Board of Trustees, alumni, faculty, staff, students and friends — who have made it possible for us to continue to live our motto Esse non videri — “To be, not to seem.” As we forge ahead with our new strategic plan, “Living Our Mission: The Next Century,” it is you who continue to inspire us, and together we will continue to ensure our legacy.

With gratitude,

Donald R. Boomgaarden, Ph.D.
